Nuclear Medicine For The Evaluation Of Thoracic Trauma
Dr. Tansel Ansal BALCIa
aNükleer Tıp ABD, Fırat Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ELAZIĞ Thoracic trauma may come to exist as a separate organ injury by means of penetrating tools or blunt trauma as well as it may be as a multi-compartmental trauma. Nuclear medicine is a rapidly advancing and physiological imaging technique that provides information in molecular level. Especially in the case of complicated thoracic trauma when there is a mismatch between the radiological findings and clinical situation, nuclear medicine has to be in mind.
The clinicians out of nuclear medicine discipline are mostly aware of pulmonary and myocardial scintigraphies within the thoracic cavity and use them very often for the purpose of the evaluation of pulmonary emboli and myocardial perfusion, respectively. However in addition to the pulmonary and cardiac techniques, there are some radionuclide methods for routine or academical use about the pathologies of other thoracic organs. Liver, spleen or biliary scintigraphies may be very useful in the penetrating or blunt subdiaphragmatic traumas accompanied with the thoracic trauma. Keywords: Thoracic trauma; scintigraphy; radionuclide imagingTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(47):8-17
